In this unit, I explored the fascinating world of cinematic techniques through various DS106 video assignments. One of the assignments involved analyzing the use of one-point perspective in Stanley Kubrick’s films. This technique creates a visually striking and symmetrical composition that draws the viewer’s eye to the center of the frame, enhancing the storytelling by emphasizing key elements and creating a sense of depth. Watching Kubrick’s use of this technique in films like “The Shining” provided valuable insights into how directors can manipulate visual elements to convey mood and focus attention.

Another assignment focused on the use of zooms in “The Shining.” Zooming in or out can dramatically alter the viewer’s perception of a scene, either intensifying the focus on a character or expanding the view to reveal more context. This technique can heighten tension, create a sense of isolation, or emphasize important details.
